This archaeological site is undoubtedly the archaeological jewel of the state of Chiapas.

Formerly called Lakamja or Gran Agua (Big Water), this place was one of the most important state cities of the Mayan world. Its striking beauty is partly due to the fact that it is submerged in the exuberant Lacandon jungle. This site is a sample of the finest architecture and sculpture that the Mayan civilization came to have and contains among its most important jewels the wonderful tomb of King Pakal which is no longer accessible for visitors.
